How to Get the Ottocast U2Air Edge in Pakistan

Quick answer

The Ottocast U2Air Edge is a small dongle that turns a car's factory wired Apple CarPlay or Android Auto into wireless. It does not add CarPlay to a car that does not already have it. To check your car, plug your phone into the car's USB port with a cable. If CarPlay or Android Auto appears on the screen, the U2Air Edge should work. It was not listed on Daraz when we checked in October 2026.

What does the Ottocast U2Air Edge do?

If your car shows Apple CarPlay or Android Auto only when you plug your phone in with a cable, the U2Air Edge removes the cable. You plug the dongle into the car's USB port once, pair your phone, and from then on CarPlay or Android Auto starts wirelessly when you get in. Ottocast says it reconnects automatically when the car starts, remembers up to two phones, and has a button to switch between them. Your touchscreen, steering wheel buttons and control knob keep working as before, because the car still thinks it is talking to a wired phone.

It suits drivers who already use wired CarPlay or Android Auto every day and are tired of plugging in for short trips, and households where two people share one car.

Will the U2Air Edge work in my car?

Only if your car already has factory wired CarPlay or Android Auto. Ottocast's product page is clear on this:

  • Wireless CarPlay needs the car to have factory wired CarPlay.
  • Wireless Android Auto needs the car to have factory wired Android Auto.
  • Cars that only offer wireless CarPlay, such as some BMW models, are not compatible. Ottocast points those buyers to a different product.
  • Sony aftermarket head units are listed as not compatible.
  • Mitsubishi owners are asked to contact Ottocast before ordering.
Your carWill the U2Air Edge work?
Factory screen with wired CarPlay, iPhone userYes, this is what it is made for
Factory screen with wired Android Auto, Android userYes
Factory screen with CarPlay only, Android userNo, Android Auto must be in the car
Car already has wireless CarPlay onlyNo, per Ottocast
Factory screen with no CarPlay or Android AutoNo, it cannot add them
Sony aftermarket head unitNo, listed as not compatible
Other aftermarket screenOnly if a cable brings up genuine CarPlay or Android Auto

Ottocast describes its products as designed for vehicles typically from 2016 onwards, but the year alone does not decide it. Two cars of the same model and year can differ by trim, and only the one with CarPlay or Android Auto in its infotainment system will work.

How do you check your car in five minutes?

  1. Start the car and turn on the infotainment screen.
  2. Find the USB port meant for phones. Apple says it may be marked with a CarPlay icon or a smartphone icon. Some cars have a second USB port that only charges.
  3. Plug in your phone with a good data cable. Use the original cable if you can.
  4. If you have an iPhone, CarPlay should appear on the car's screen. If it does not, look for a CarPlay icon on the screen and tap it. If you have an Android phone, Android Auto should start.
  5. If it works with the cable, the U2Air Edge should work. If nothing happens, try the other USB port and another cable. If it still does not work, your car does not have wired CarPlay or Android Auto, and this dongle will not add it.
  6. Note whether the working port is USB-A (the older rectangular type) or USB-C. You need this to pick the right version.

If CarPlay does not appear on an iPhone that should support it, Apple's help page suggests trying a different cable or USB port, checking the car's manual for the right port, and making sure CarPlay is not blocked under Screen Time restrictions. You can also go to Settings, General, CarPlay, choose your car, tap Forget This Car and set it up again. Get the wired connection working reliably first. A wireless adapter cannot fix a wired connection that already fails.

What about aftermarket Android screens?

Many cars in Pakistan have an aftermarket Android screen fitted in place of the original radio. Some of these run their own phone-link apps rather than genuine wired CarPlay or Android Auto. The U2Air Edge is designed for factory systems, so the cable test above is the only reliable check. If your phone brings up real CarPlay or Android Auto over a cable on that screen, it may work. If you only get screen mirroring or a third-party app, it will not, and you should not order one.

The figures come from the comparison on Ottocast's product page. Ottocast also mentions built-in venting to deal with heat on longer drives, which is useful in a Pakistani summer when the dongle sits in a warm centre console.

Should you get the USB-A or USB-C version?

Ottocast sells the U2Air Edge with a USB-A plug or a USB-C plug. It recommends USB-A for most cars. The USB-C option comes with an A-to-C adapter, and Ottocast notes it is meant for cars with a native USB-C CarPlay port. Use the result of your cable test: if your working CarPlay or Android Auto port is USB-A, choose USB-A. If it is USB-C, choose USB-C. Avoid stacking extra adapters and hubs, because Apple notes that some combinations of adapters, cables and car systems can disrupt wired CarPlay.

The U2Air Edge supports both systems, but each needs the matching wired system in the car. Google's Android Auto help pages say to confirm your car is compatible with Android Auto and that your phone meets the minimum requirements. A car with CarPlay but no Android Auto will give an Android user nothing, and the reverse is also true. Check both if your household mixes iPhones and Android phones.

A few things the dongle does not change. Your phone still needs mobile data for maps and streaming. The car's screen size, sound quality and steering wheel controls stay exactly as they were with a cable. And because the phone is no longer plugged in, it is no longer charging from that port, so on long drives keep a car charger or a wireless charging pad handy.

How do you set it up?

  1. Plug the U2Air Edge into the same USB port that worked in your cable test.
  2. Turn on Bluetooth and Wi-Fi on your phone.
  3. Pair the phone with the dongle following the on-screen prompts.
  4. Install Ottocast's OttoPilot app, which Ottocast says handles firmware updates, guides and support. Updates help it stay compatible with new iOS and Android versions.
  5. Make a short test drive and check calls, maps and music.

Is the U2Air Edge sold in Pakistan?

It was not listed on Daraz when we checked in October 2026. Daraz did show unbranded 2-in-1 wireless CarPlay and Android Auto dongles, and Carlinkit "AI Box" units that run Android apps on the car screen. The unbranded dongles do the same basic job, with less information about chips, firmware updates and support. The AI boxes are a different product type, aimed at streaming video and apps rather than just going wireless.

Common mistakes with wireless CarPlay adapters

  • Buying one for a car that has no wired CarPlay or Android Auto at all.
  • Plugging it into a charge-only USB port.
  • Choosing USB-C because your phone is USB-C. The plug type should match the car's port, not the phone.
  • Never updating firmware, then losing connection after a phone update.
  • Expecting zero delay. Any wireless link adds a little lag compared with a cable.

What should you check when it arrives?

  • The plug type matches what you ordered, and the adapter is included if you chose USB-C.
  • The dongle powers on when plugged into your car's CarPlay or Android Auto port.
  • Your phone pairs and CarPlay or Android Auto starts without a cable.
  • It reconnects by itself the next time you start the car.
  • Install OttoPilot and update the firmware before long trips.
