How to Get the Topdon TopScan Lite in Pakistan

What is the Topdon TopScan Lite?

The TopScan Lite is a pocket-sized dongle that plugs into your car's diagnostic socket and talks to your phone over Bluetooth. The phone app does the work: it reads fault codes, shows live sensor data, and on supported cars runs service functions like an oil service reset or a steering angle reset. Topdon sells it in three tiers, Lite, Pro and Master. The Lite is the entry model, aimed at owners who do their own basic servicing and want to know why the check engine light is on before visiting a workshop.

In the box you get the TopScan device and a quick user guide. There is no screen on the dongle, so your phone is the display.

What is OBD2 and what can a scanner read?

OBD2 (on-board diagnostics, second generation) is a standard way for a car's computers to report faults. It became mandatory for passenger cars in the US for 1996 models, and Europe's version (EOBD) became required for petrol cars from 2001 and diesel cars from 2004. Japan has its own version called JOBD. Because Pakistan's cars come from Japanese, Korean, Chinese and European makers, the standard reaches us through those markets rather than through a local rule.

The basics every owner should know:

• The socket: a 16-pin connector, usually under the dashboard. The standard asks for it to be within about 2 feet (0.61m) of the steering wheel, so look low on the driver's side first.
• Fault codes: five characters, starting with a letter. P is powertrain (engine and gearbox), C is chassis, B is body, U is network. A code like P0xxx is a generic engine code.
• Live data: sensor readings such as coolant temperature, engine speed and oxygen sensor output, shown while the engine runs.
• Clearing codes: erasing stored faults after a repair. Clearing a code does not fix the fault. If the problem is still there, it comes back.

A code tells you which system reported a problem, not always which part has failed. A misfire code, for example, can come from a spark plug, an ignition coil, an injector or a wiring fault. Write the code down, note when the warning light came on and what the car was doing, and look at the live data before buying parts. Taking that information to a mechanic also saves time, because they start from a known fault instead of guessing.

Does your car in Pakistan have an OBD2 port?

We will not list model years, because local assembly, imported used cars and different trim levels make blanket rules unreliable. What holds in general:

• Most fuel-injected cars built in roughly the last twenty years have a 16-pin diagnostic socket under the dashboard on the driver's side.
• Older carburettor cars do not have engine computers of this kind, so there is nothing for an OBD2 scanner to read.
• Having the 16-pin socket is necessary but not enough. The scanner also has to support your car's make, model and year for the deeper functions. Generic engine codes are the most widely supported. Resets and active tests are model-specific.
• Japanese imports were built for the Japanese market, and coverage for those can differ from the same model sold elsewhere.

The quickest test: sit in the driver's seat with a torch and look under the dashboard, around the fuse panel and above the pedals. If you find a 16-pin trapezoid socket, your car has the port.

How do you check your exact car before ordering?

1. Find the 16-pin socket in your car and take a photo of where it sits.
2. Note your car's make, model, model year and engine. The registration book helps with the year.
3. Use Topdon's vehicle coverage lookup on its website, linked from the TopScan product page. Enter your make, model and year and the function you care about, such as oil reset or ABS bleeding.
4. If your car shows up for engine codes but not for the resets you want, decide whether code reading alone is worth it for you.
5. If your car does not appear at all, do not order. A cheaper generic reader may be the better buy.

TopScan Lite vs Pro vs Master: which one do you need?

For most car owners in Pakistan, the Lite is enough. The Pro and Master add functions that mainly matter to workshops and to owners of newer European and American cars.

What are the 8 reset functions on the Lite?

Topdon's US store lists them as:

• Oil reset: clears the service reminder after an oil change.
• Throttle adaptation: relearns the throttle body after cleaning or replacement.
• EPB reset: puts an electric parking brake into service mode for pad changes.
• Steering angle reset: recalibrates the steering angle sensor after alignment work.
• DPF regeneration: for diesel cars with a particulate filter.
• ABS bleeding: helps bleed brakes on cars with ABS modules that need it.
• BMS reset: registers a new battery on cars with battery management.
• Airbag reset: clears airbag warning codes after a repair.

Each one only works on cars that use that system and that Topdon supports. A basic small hatchback with a handbrake lever and no battery management will not use half of these.

What is free, what needs a subscription, and which phones work?

This is the part to read carefully. Topdon's product page splits TopScan functions into two groups. Engine checks with full OBD2 functions, full-system code reading, I/M readiness, the vehicle performance test, the VE calculator and repair information are listed as always free. The 8 maintenance services, bidirectional control, full-system code clearing and full-system live data are listed as needing a subscription. Topdon's US store says the first year of updates is included, with a yearly fee after that. Terms change, so check the current page before buying, and expect to pay a renewal later if you want the advanced functions to keep working.

On phones, Topdon's US page lists Android 7.0 or later and iOS 11.0 or later, with Bluetooth 5.0 and a range of up to about 33 feet. You install Topdon's app and connect the dongle through it. Before ordering, check that you can find and download the app from your Play Store or App Store.

Is the TopScan Lite sold in Pakistan?

It was not listed on Daraz when we checked in October 2026. What Daraz did show, and what makes a realistic comparison:

• Generic ELM327 Bluetooth adapters: very cheap and fine for reading and clearing basic engine codes with a third-party app. Quality varies widely and they rarely do resets.
• Topdon AL200: a basic wired code reader from the same brand, for engine codes only.
• THINKCAR ThinkDiag Mini: another phone-based full-system scanner.

If you only want to know why the check engine light came on, an ELM327 reader may be enough. If you want resets and active tests on a supported car, the TopScan Lite is the step up.

Common mistakes when buying an OBD2 scanner

• Ordering before checking that your car's make, model and year are covered.
• Assuming every function is free forever.
• Clearing codes to switch off the warning light without fixing the fault.
• Running resets you do not understand on brakes or airbags. If in doubt, leave those to a workshop.
• Leaving any plug-in dongle connected for weeks on a car that is not driven. Unplug it when you are done.
