Taobao sellers ship only within China, the site is in Chinese, and it accepts only Chinese payment methods, so you cannot buy from it directly from Pakistan. Pakistani buyers use a sourcing agent with a Chinese address: the agent buys the item, receives it in China, then exports it to you. For a single item, that means sending the Taobao link to a service that delivers it to your door for one price.
What is Taobao and why do people want it?
Taobao is China's largest consumer marketplace, owned by Alibaba Group. It has far more variety than AliExpress, including the small brands, fashion, gadgets, collectibles and hobby items that show up in videos and never reach Pakistan. Prices are domestic Chinese prices, usually well below what the same item costs on AliExpress or Daraz.
Can I order from Taobao directly from Pakistan?
In practice, no. Four things stop you:
- Shipping. Sellers ship to Chinese addresses only. Taobao's own international forwarding covers a few countries and Pakistan is not reliably one of them.
- Language. The site, listings and seller chat are in Chinese. Browser translation helps for reading but not for asking a seller about sizes or variants.
- Payment. Taobao takes Alipay and Chinese bank cards. Pakistani cards do not work.
- Registration. Signing up needs a phone number, and verification for foreign numbers is unreliable.
How do Pakistani buyers get Taobao items?
Through a sourcing agent. The agent has a Chinese Taobao account, a Chinese payment method and a warehouse address in China. The process:
- You send the Taobao link, plus the colour or size you want.
- The agent confirms the item is in stock and gives you one price in rupees for the item delivered to your door in Pakistan.
- You pay once, before it ships.
- The agent buys it, the seller ships it to the agent's China address, and the agent forwards it to Pakistan by air with customs cleared.
- It arrives at your door in roughly 7 to 15 days after it leaves China.
This is the same route used for 1688. Read what a China sourcing agent does.
How do I find the item on Taobao if I don't read Chinese?
- Use Chrome's built-in translate on taobao.com. It is rough but enough to browse.
- Search by image. Taobao's app has a camera search, and the agent can also search by photo for you.
- Translate the product name into Chinese with Google Translate and paste it into Taobao's search bar. Results are much better than searching in English.
- Or skip all of this and send the agent a photo or an AliExpress link; the same item is usually on Taobao for less.
Taobao vs AliExpress vs 1688 for a single item
| Taobao | AliExpress | 1688 | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Who it's for | Chinese consumers | International consumers | Chinese wholesalers |
| Variety | Highest | Medium | High for generic goods |
| Price for one piece | Low | Higher | Lowest, but MOQ sometimes applies |
| Ships to Pakistan? | No | Usually yes, slowly | No |
| Needs an agent? | Yes | No, but helps | Yes |
What should I watch out for on Taobao?
- Counterfeits. Branded goods at a fraction of the price are fakes and will be seized by Pakistani customs. Stick to unbranded or genuinely Chinese brands.
- Variants. Listings often bundle many colours, sizes and versions at different prices. Specify exactly which one.
- Seller ratings. Taobao shows a crown or diamond rating and a detailed score. Prefer sellers with high volume and a score above 4.8.
- Pre-orders. Some items ship 7 to 15 days after ordering. The agent will tell you if that applies.
Frequently asked questions
Does Taobao deliver to Pakistan?
No. Taobao sellers ship within China only. Pakistani buyers use a sourcing agent with a Chinese address who receives the item and forwards it to Pakistan.
Is Taobao cheaper than AliExpress?
Usually yes, often by a third or more for the same item, because Taobao prices are for the Chinese domestic market. Agent fees and shipping narrow the gap but rarely close it.
Can I pay Taobao with a Pakistani card?
No. Taobao accepts Alipay and Chinese bank cards only. An agent pays on your behalf and you pay the agent in rupees.
Is Taobao the same as Alibaba?
They are owned by the same group but serve different buyers. Alibaba.com is for international wholesale. Taobao is for Chinese consumers buying single pieces.
How long does a Taobao order take to reach Pakistan?
The seller usually ships to the agent within 1 to 3 days. From there, 7 to 15 days by air to your door including customs. Allow 2 to 3 weeks in total.
