Yes. Most appliances sold for the Chinese market run on 220V 50Hz, the same as Pakistan, so they work here with a simple plug adapter. Avoid 110V US-market versions, which need a bulky converter. Small and medium appliances such as air fryers, rice cookers, blenders, robot vacuums and coffee machines ship well by air; large or heavy items lose their saving to freight. Check the voltage label, the plug type and whether the controls and app are in Chinese.
Can I import one appliance from China to Pakistan?
Yes. China runs on 220V 50Hz and Pakistan on 220 to 240V 50Hz, so an appliance made for the Chinese market is electrically compatible here. That makes Chinese appliances a realistic single-item import, especially products not sold in Pakistan or sold at a large markup. Check the plug, that the listing is the 220V version, the language of the controls, and the freight for anything heavy.
Voltage: what works and what does not
Look at the rating label on the appliance or in the listing. It will say something like 220V~ 50Hz, which is what you want. Some labels say 100 to 240V, meaning the appliance accepts any mains voltage; those are fine too. What you do not want is 110V or 120V 60Hz, which is the US and Japanese market version. Sellers on Alibaba and AliExpress often stock both, and a listing can default to the US plug version. State clearly that you want 220V.
A 110V appliance can run on a step-down converter rated well above its wattage, but for heating appliances such as kettles, air fryers and hair tools that means a large, heavy transformer. It is rarely worth it.
Plugs are a separate, simpler matter. China uses type A (two flat pins), type C (two round pins) and type I (three angled flat pins). Pakistan uses type C and type D (three round pins). A type C plug fits many Pakistani sockets directly. A type A or type I plug needs a plug adapter, cheap and available anywhere. For appliances with an earth pin, use an adapter that carries the earth connection.
Which appliances suit a single import?
Air freight is charged by weight or volumetric weight (length by width by height in cm divided by 6000), whichever is higher, which favours compact appliances. Sea freight needs around a cubic metre to be economical, so it does not work for one item. In practice:
- Good single imports: air fryers, rice cookers, multi-cookers, blenders, coffee and espresso machines, robot vacuums, handheld vacuums, electric kettles, hair tools, massage devices, small water purifiers, sewing machines, projectors.
- Marginal: microwaves, stand mixers, large soup makers, countertop ovens, where freight is a large share of the price.
- Usually not worth it: refrigerators, washing machines, air conditioners, dishwashers, large televisions. Freight and fragility erase the saving, and local service matters for these.
Duty on appliances
Household appliances are dutiable at rates set by HS code, with additional customs duty, sales tax at the standard rate and advance income tax on the customs value including freight. Many appliances have valuation rulings, so customs may assess a minimum value. Combined taxes on imports commonly fall between 25 and 60 percent of customs value, and the figure moves with each budget. Confirm the current rate for your item. There is no duty-free threshold for parcels. The customs duty guide covers the calculation.
Chinese controls, voice prompts and apps
This is the surprise for many buyers. A China-market rice cooker, air fryer or robot vacuum may have its control panel labelled in Chinese, speak its voice prompts in Mandarin, and come with a manual in Chinese only. Smart appliances often need a Chinese app region (for example the China server of a brand's home app), which can mean the app in your Pakistani app store does not see the device, or works with limited functions. Some brands sell a global or international version with English panels and an international app. Ask the seller for that version. On a simple appliance with dials, Chinese labelling is a minor inconvenience; on a robot vacuum or multi-function cooker it matters a lot.
Restricted items in this category
Aerosols and pressurised cans are restricted by air. Gas-powered appliances and anything containing refrigerant or fuel can be refused. Cordless appliances with a built-in lithium battery, such as cordless vacuums and hair tools, ship normally; a spare battery sold separately does not. Water filters and purifiers are fine but check that replacement cartridges are available to you later. Glass components such as blender jugs and kettle bodies need rigid packing; ask the seller for the original foam and an outer carton.
Appliance type and what to check
| Appliance | Voltage and plug | Freight suitability | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Air fryer, rice cooker, multi-cooker | Confirm 220V, type C or adapter | Good | Chinese panel and voice prompts |
| Blender, coffee machine | Confirm 220V | Good | Glass parts need padding |
| Robot vacuum | Charger 100 to 240V usually | Good | App region; built-in battery is fine |
| Hair tools, massage devices | Confirm 220V, not US version | Very good | US 110V versions common on Alibaba |
| Microwave, countertop oven | Confirm 220V | Marginal | Weight and volume |
| Fridge, washer, AC | 220V | Poor | Freight and no local service |
What commonly goes wrong?
- 110V version arrives. The seller shipped the US plug version. Specify 220V in writing.
- Chinese-only interface. Panel, prompts and app all in Chinese with no switch.
- App cannot find the device. It is on the China server and your app region is Pakistan.
- Glass broken in transit. Thin packaging on a blender or kettle.
- Freight surprise. A large light appliance is charged on volume and the saving disappears.
How does a single-item service handle an appliance?
Send the listing link on WhatsApp, stating the 220V version and the language version you want. You get one price in rupees within 24 hours covering the appliance, air shipping, Pakistan customs and our fee, stated upfront. You pay once before it ships, and it is delivered anywhere in Pakistan in 7 to 15 days after dispatch, with nothing to pay at the door. We handle one appliance per order, not stock for a shop. Frequently asked questions
Do Chinese appliances work on Pakistani electricity?
Yes, if they are the 220V version. China and Pakistan both use 220V 50Hz mains. You only need a plug adapter for the pin shape. Avoid 110V US-market versions.
Do I need a voltage converter for an appliance from China?
Not for a 220V Chinese-market appliance. You need a converter only for 110V items, and for heating appliances the converter is large and expensive, so buy the 220V version instead.
Which plug adapter do I need for Chinese appliances?
Chinese plugs are type A, C or I. Pakistani sockets are type C and D. Type C fits directly in many sockets; type A and I need a cheap adapter. Use an earthed adapter for three-pin appliances.
Is it worth importing a refrigerator or washing machine from China?
Usually not as a single item. Freight on large heavy appliances is high, they are fragile, and there is no local service. Small and medium appliances are the sensible single imports.
Will a Chinese smart appliance work with the app in Pakistan?
Not always. China-market devices often connect to the China server of the brand's app, which the Pakistani app store version may not support. Ask for the global or international version.
